I LOVE old houses! I live in one. I'd like to fix it up, but the hubby would like to take a couple sticks of dynamite to it.

LOL... Men are just way too practical, don't you think? My sister wanted to turn the bunk house they had on their property into a guest house - my BIL just saw a place to put another new shed... The bunk house is history, so I guess he won...lol

I just wish I could have gone in, but with the floors caving into the basement, I didn't dare... It was so big... I kept imagining a Victorian family living there... The furniture, and the clothes... I can imagine what a beautiful place it must have been...

I did find great things...
There are quite a few old places that are set off the road more, and I'd like to get permission to go take pictures like these of those houses... I didn't exactly have permission this time (!!) but I don't like to trespass, so I don't do that often!

Oooh I love these pictures! I would totally redo old houses if I had the money. Wait, let me rephrase that. Restore old houses, not redo. Keep the same integrity and design just make it safe.

Love,
Julie

Great pics! Old houses have so many stories to tell..I always wanted to fix up an old farmhouse but Dh grew up in a really old rundown farm home and hates them...:( I however love them.

My mother's kin from Germany old stone farmstead home is still intact in Russell country. I have seen pics of it and it's awesome. I want to go and visit and take pics sometime soon!

There were some fabulous stone houses in Pottawotamie County when we lived there... Shells, really, but not a crack one in the stonework... I always wanted to fix one of those up - Some had been fixed up and they were beautiful... Walls 3 feet thick!!

This house was wo big, I can't imagine what it was like to heat it with wood or coal!!

I thought about having that bathroom picture printed and hanging it in my bathroom... What do you think??

Do you have "round houses" out there in KS? I've only seen one or two in my day... and they seem like they would make so much more sense in Tornado Alley of all places because the high winds would have nothing to "cling" to.

Red - I don't know about round houses, but there are some round barns. There's one over by Mulvane and I see on google that there's one by Mullinville. I don't know that round houses would fair any better in tornados than any other. Tornados are really strange winds, their damage defies logic.

There is a round house between Greensburg and Mullinville on 54/400 highway. It is built into the side of a hill, so most of it would survive... You walk into the front door on the south, and walk around the indoor pool to get to the livingroom, and the bedrooms, bathroom, and kitchen are all radiating off the livingroom like a wagon wheel... The livingroom would be damaged probably by debris through all the big glass windows, but the rest of the house would probably be fine...
Tornado winds are sstrong eough they don't flow around things like your average wind does - they don't hit head on usually...

But for YOU, dear lady, I will just send you a copy... IF Jerry can get my other computer to work, all these older pics are stored on that computer! (I KNOW!! I KNOW!! I should have been saving my photos to disk so I wouldn't lose them!!! NOW I know... *sigh*)
