OH i remember going thru Kansas several yrs ago and we saw fields and fields of sunflowers many of them were all black. Do you know why? I thought it was weird to see so many like that.
This picture is of the weed/wildflower variety of sunflower.. the fields you saw were crop sunflowers, and as they die they stay in the field until they are completely dry before they are harvested - mainly for sunflower oil and birdseed...
