We happened upon a flock of migrating yellow headed blackbirds yesterday evening... We were very excited, as they don't live here year 'round... According to the web, they are on their way to southwest Texas and Mexico for the winter... Pappy, guess they're headed your way!
This little sparrow seems to really be checking out the fancy flyboys... don't they even look military - standing at attention? Proud looking birds...

Wow and Wow! That is SO cool. I'm a major bird watcher. I've never seen Yellow headed blackbirds before. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
We are bird watchers, too, althought we don't own binoculars anymore, or go out specifically to see birds, but even so - you can imagine how excited we were to just "stumble" on this flock! They were flying across as we stopped at a stop sign, and we stayed to watch them for about 10 or 15 minutes...
I have a birdy post today too.
I have never seen these in person, but one of the blogs I read posted about them about a month ago. She didn't know what they were and was asking for help.
Really neat!
Cool.. I'll go check out yours, right now! :)
I'd never seen them in real life before yesterday, either...
I would love for them to stop by my house. You should see all the hummingbirds we have. We have a feeder on our patio, and my dh says there were 11 there yesterday!
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen that many at one time! Too bad your husband didn't have a camera handy! :)
Does Alfred Hitchcock know about this?
Kidding!
He's dead.
Love the photos, Anita ...

Marvelous photos...those birds look so striking with the unusuall yellow breasts.
Thanks... we loved being able to be at the "right place at the right time"!
The last photo is my favorite... with the little sparrow... these guys look like they mean business... lol
I didn't know there WERE yellow headed blackbirds. Way COOL that you were there to get pictures!
Red-winged black birds are my favorite bird, and in reading about them I've seen pictures of other blackbirds - including the yellow headed - but I'd never seen them in real life... it was exciting! (I can hear someone out there saying "get a life!" lol)
Oh, my, I had to call my husband to look at your great photos of these beautiful birds. Isn't nature grand!
It is! And I never get tired of photographing it... :)
I keep telling myself I want to do more "human" photography, but everytime I go out with my camera, all I come back with is nature and dilapidated buildings... :)
OMGosh, Anita...these are just awesome.
Thanks...
They were some of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen...
Amazing Anita!
Watch the birdie, hooold it!, and that's just what you did.
Your skywatch made my eyes water but these pics I truly love.
Great pictures of the soldier like birds. Like your other pictures as well.
Thanks!
That's my favorite one of these birds, too...
