The first LEED Platinum certified building in the state of Kansas was built here, after the storm. It's the "5-4-7 Art Center", so named because the storm happened on May 4, 2007. It was built from recycled wood by the Kansas University architectural students. They built it in sections in Lawrence, Kansas, and brought the sections by truck to it's current location here in Greensburg and finished the building. It's a beautiful building that pictures don't do justice to! The 'green' details, solar panels, wind generators, geo-thermal systems, a green roof and many more, are really inspiring!

The part with the horizontal lines lifts up to reveal floor to ceiling windows a another door.. louvers are in place to let in as much or as little sun as needed to help heat the place... it's just gorgeous...

What an absolutely fascinating building! And, what a "good" thing for the KU students to do.

Anita: Thanks for sharing this engineering marvel. that certainly has to be a gemstone on the KU campus.

It was awesome how they built part of it there and brought it several hundred miles to Greensburg to the permanent location!

Fantastic. It's pretty, too!

Love your SWF post as well. I did not make it everywhere on the last one, so glad it was easy to see here!
