I don't know if it's because I grew up close to the land in a family of generations of wheat farmers - maybe it's in my blood - but it seems like nothing stirs my soul quite like a beautiful field of wheat against a blue Kansas sky... I realize that only one of these pictures has the sky in it,(and this is Sky Watch Friday) but that wheat is a product of that sky, almost as much as it is a product of that soil...

Sky Watch Friday originates at Wigger's World...

Hi Anita,

You got your name misspelled on Tom's blog so the link doesn't work. I figured it out and was able to get here but a lot of people won't mess around.

Your wheat fields (I think that is wheat but maybe rye or something else) and sky photos are very nice.

Anita .. you need to re-enter your blog link over at Tom's .. its mucked up ..

I think this is where the song lyric about the corn is as high as an elephants eye and it looks like its climbing way up to the sky .. KANSAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I know its really OKLA .. but ..................

THanks for the heads up on the link guys!

This IS wheat... and I just wish I could show you all how stunningly beautiful it is to stand in one spot, look east and west down a very straight, narrow, dirt road, and see nothing else but green, green wheat and blue, blue sky...

That is stirring. Must be satisfying to know all that beautiful stuff will turn into food for many people.

I got here straight from TOM, so it is working now.

As for your photos, if it wasn´t wheat imagine the pleasure of running on that field trying to reach the sky ...
The first photo is a stunner.

Thanks!

When i was little, I used to love playing in the wheat... back then, before it was "genetically modified" it used to grow much taller... I remember when it was almost as tall as I was!
My grandparents used to go out and manually pick rye out of the wheat fields to better the harvest...For years I thought rye was a weed, I didn't know it was a grain too! :)
I still see wheat fields with rye coming up in it, but not near like it used to be...

I'm transfixed when I stand in our wheat field. Your pics are awesome. Ours has headed out now. I love how it whispers in the breeze.

The sound of the wheat mixed with the cries of red-winged blackbirds, meadowlarks, and mourning doves is heaven... the wheat sounds even better when it's ready for harvest...

I agree, wheat can be a beautiful sight, especially when that sky is so blue. Nice post for skywatch!

Lovely contrast between the blue of the sky and the green, green, green of the wheat. I can just imagine the dark earth beneath. Nice photo!

I grew up in Missouri and so miss the big skies. Your images are beautiful. I especially like the clouds that look like there's fingers coming out of them.
And the sky in your wheat picture? Priceless. THANK YOU for a good dose of big sky. It was needed more than I realized.
